Cat Flap Tumble Hack

Out the back of our new house is a simple lean to “conservatory” with some very thin walls. There was a broken cat flap in one of the walls and as our cat is a house cat we didn’t really need that to work.

So I found a sheet of aluminium which was a bit bigger than the hole and using some snips cut a 100mm hole for the drier hose. Top tip when cutting sheet metal to avoid distortion cut multiple thin strips rather than trying to cut it all in one go.

I used a 100mm flap vent, a 100mm pipe coupler and a yup you guessed it a 100mm wall plate. The vent was bolted to the wall plate with some 5mm bolts and lock nuts with the aluminium plate sandwiched between. The pipe coupler was then fitted on the back and held in place by some white exterior adhesive.

The plate was bolted over the wall where the cat flap used to be with some more 5mm bolts.

The metal pipe just pushes onto the adapter. I might get a hose clip if that comes loose but it seems to be sufficient for the time being.

I went one better and have the dryer and cat flap combined. I built a plywood box, and mounted it inside and moved the catdoor to the inside. The dryer vents into the top of the box. The cat didn’t like it at first but we only use the dryer a couple of times a week so she just has to wait or try to be let in.
