Advent Calendars

Yesterday, I spotted some advent calendars in a local shop and I was a little shocked by the price. When I was a kid they used to be simple cardboard affairs with a picture behind each door. In more recent times chocolate has been substituted in for the pictures. But there are also some gift based calendars, such as very old and rare whiskies, which are obviously not aimed at children.

The ones I saw were Lego based with a small kit in each one, I’m not sure if these are aimed at kids or adults despite what the age suggestions read.

This also got me thinking as to what else could be placed inside. Perhaps small electronics components like a Boldport Club kit? Perhaps the individual sockets or drivers from a socket or screwdriver set? These could be combined with a DIY card or wooden advent calendar or you could customise your one from a kit. Perhaps all the doors could be locked and you’d have to pick a lock to open them each day or an electronic time-lock to stop people from peeking.

UPDATE: Stu from Twitter spotted that there is already a Wera Screwdriver Advent Calendar and a Wiha Screwdriver Advent Calendar

Let me know in the comments below what kind of things you would put into your advent calendar?
