St Mungo’s Mini Builds

Those who follow along on social media will know that I’m a big fan of Lego. I was also aware of the work done by St Mungo’s to help homelessness in London and beyond, but as I was already supporting a different charity I’d previously not donated.

When I saw the adverts for the mini-builds it gave me an incentive to sign up for a regular donation. My first kit arrived a few weeks later and came well packaged in a padded envelope. The kit was the “mini-house” and it contains 72 parts. The instructions are online only and are easy enough to follow but perhaps are not as polished as mainstream Lego kits. For example there are a couple of steps where the parts are just left floating until the following step locks them together. Nothing that a reasonably proficient builder would struggle with. The kits do come with an 18+ warning, I suspect this is to do with small parts as there’s nothing that a supervised younger builder would not be able to cope with.

Along with the kit comes a leaflet with the story of one of the people who have been helped by the charity. You can also catch up with these real life stories via the website.

The kits are sent once a quarter so I’m looking forward to the next parcel in the post. As I do have quite a lot of Lego already, I’ll likely gift the older ones, donate to my local charity shop or use the donate option of one of online auction sites once that arrives.

Your donation helps support people experiencing homelessness by providing life-changing services — from emergency accommodation to long-term recovery support. You’re helping people rebuild their lives, brick by brick.
