I have purchased some rubber seals for my jars, but the metal clips are rather tarnished. Can you tell me where I can buy new ones. Regards G Hopper
Graham, sorry I don’t know where the clips can be bought. You might be able to restore the clips using metal polish?
Do you happen to know where I could find replacements for the glass lids? I have a few with lids are chipped.
Hi Jennifer, I haven’t used any specific shops for that but a quick search showed that Etsy has some sellers for “replacement glass lids” so you might try there.
Hi Can anybody tell me how to extend the life of the seals on Kilner jars? Would oiling them keep them from perishing?
Not sure oil would help, keeping them clean and out of UV light seems to be the general recommendation for rubber seals.
Hi. Can anyone tell me a way to remove a harden seal off the jar. Have a vintage canister set about 40+ years old. The seals are dry rotted but still seal, and are stuck on pretty good. They do need replaced, so I don’t want to leave them. Hard time getting them off. Any ideas welcome. Thank you.
I think I used a sharp knife to get the bulk off then a washing up pad to handle the residual mess.
how do you tighten the metal clips? mine have become loose with time.
I would say that unless it is affecting the seal, not to try to tighten them. You can shorten the metal by putting a kink into the metal or by unfolding and refolding the wires. But you could easily end up with a non functional jar.
An alternative might be to put something between the wire and the jar. Perhaps a ribbon?

I’ve seen them for sale in big home stores, online in both marketplaces and specialist stores. You should be able to find some relatively easily.
don’t worry about the seals, the wire is ordinary steel, not stainless, I contacted Kilner, to ask if I can buy replacements, I was told,” we don’t supply them you will have to buy new jars”. not even an apology. I think it is disgusting.

I second Robert Saunders comment, I too was looking for replacement wires, it’s shocking they don’t sell these as spares, plenty other storage jars out there, won’t be buying from kilner again with their attitude
I don’t think anyone sells the metal clip part I am looking for Le Parfait ones. Says they are hand assembled. maybe you need a tool? I have a box or ‘arc’ spare lids that fit some jars thrifted, the silicon seals are widely available for different brands. I want to replace the rustwd steel clips.
Seems like there are a number of sellers of the wires on Ebay. Search for “Mason Glass Jar Lid Wire Clamp Replacement”.
I think all you would need would be some pliers to swap them.
The Mason wire closures are too small. No-one is selling the right size for Kilner jares, despire there being many jars of the same type and size fore sale. I expect it will take an enterprising Chinese firm to manufacture them!
i was gifted a Kilner Jar but the front clasp to close it is missing. Do you know where i can purchase a Clasp?
How do you loosen the snap ? When I go to seal I feel like the glass is going to break.
The glass is very tough so unlikely to break unless you drop the jar. If the snap is too tight it could be that the sealing ring is too thick or that the snap is the wrong size for the jar.
